Your IFTA quarter from two files
Rates verified · By TruePermit · Free, no signup
Drop in the miles-by-state report your ELD exports and the statement your fuel card exports. You get the net you owe or get back, fleet MPG, and what an auditor would question. No signup, nothing saved.
How the quarter is computed
Every truck's miles are added up by state, and the fleet's miles are divided by the diesel gallons bought to get fleet MPG. Each state's miles divided by that MPG is the fuel you burned there; the fuel you bought there is already taxed at the pump and comes off as a credit. What is left, at each state's rate on the official IFTA matrix, is the net. Indiana, Kentucky and Virginia add a surcharge on every gallon burned, with no credit.
The checks are the ones an auditor starts with: fuel bought in a state a truck never ran, a truck with miles and no fuel, a fleet MPG outside the plausible band. More in the IFTA audit guide and the IFTA fuel tax guide.
Frequently asked questions
Which files does this read?
Any CSV or Excel export with a truck or unit column, a state column, and miles or gallons. That covers the IFTA or jurisdiction-mileage report most ELDs export and the transaction statement fuel cards export. Column names don't have to match a template; the reader finds them by meaning, and converts kilometres and litres.
Are my files stored?
No. They are read once on our server to compute the page you see, then dropped. Nothing goes into a database until you create an account and import there yourself.
Why do I only see the total and not each state?
The net, the fleet totals and the audit checks are free. The per-state return, the filing packet and the four-year archive are the paid plans. The account itself is free, and the same files import into it.
Can I upload only one file?
Yes. An ELD summary that also lists fuel by state computes on its own. A fuel-card statement alone gives the gallons but no miles, so the net needs the mileage report too.
Is this the number I file?
It is computed with the same engine and the same official IFTA rate matrix the product files with, but it is a check, not a filed return. Review the lines in the full return before you file with your base jurisdiction.
Related
A check computed by TruePermit's deterministic tax engine from the files you upload and the official IFTA rate matrix. It is not a filed return and not tax advice. Verify the return line by line before filing with your base jurisdiction.
