Estimated Oregon weight-mile tax

$251.20

1,000 miles × 25.12¢/mile — the official rate for the 78,001 lbs–80,000 lbs bracket.

Estimate for one vehicle, one period, from the state's official published schedule. Filings also depend on exempt miles, method elections, and your assigned filing frequency — verify with the state before you file.

How the calculator works

Oregon doesn't collect fuel tax from heavy trucks — it charges by the mile instead. Every vehicle over 26,000 lbs combined weight reports Oregon miles at its declared weight, priced from Table A (Form 735-9928): 7.64¢ per mile at the bottom bracket, climbing to 25.12¢ at 80,000 lbs. That makes an Oregon-heavy lane one of the most tax-expensive in the country, and makes accurate mileage records worth real money.

Filing runs through ODOT's Commerce & Compliance Division, monthly by default. Enrollment, bonds, temporary passes for occasional entry, and the flat-fee options for some commodities are covered in our Oregon Weight-Mile Tax guide.

Frequently asked questions

How is the Oregon weight-mile tax calculated?

Oregon taxable miles multiplied by a per-mile rate from ODOT's Table A, bracketed by declared weight in 2,000-lb steps from 26,001 to 80,000 lbs. At 80,000 lbs the Table A rate is 25.12¢ per mile — the highest per-mile trucking tax of any state. Over 80,000 lbs, Table B applies instead and the rate also depends on axle count.

Why doesn't Oregon charge fuel tax on heavy trucks?

Vehicles subject to the weight-mile tax are exempt from Oregon's fuel tax — the weight-mile tax replaces it. That's also why Oregon shows a zero fuel-tax rate on the IFTA matrix: you don't settle Oregon through your IFTA return, you file the weight-mile tax with ODOT directly.

Who has to pay the Oregon weight-mile tax?

Motor carriers operating vehicles with a combined weight over 26,000 pounds on Oregon public roads. You enroll with ODOT's Commerce & Compliance Division, carry Oregon credentials (or a temporary pass), and report miles at your declared weight.

How often do you file Oregon weight-mile tax?

Monthly by default — reports are due the last day of the month following the reporting month. Carriers with a good filing history can request quarterly reporting. Either way, a report is due even for periods with no Oregon miles.

What if my truck is over 80,000 lbs in Oregon?

Loads over 80,000 lbs (up to 105,500 with the right permit) are priced by Table B, where the rate depends on both declared weight and the number of axles — more axles, lower rate. This calculator models Table A only; pull Table B from ODOT's rate charts for heavy-haul configurations.

Is this ODOT's official calculator?

No — it's a free estimator built on ODOT's official published Table A. Your actual liability is reported through Oregon Trucking Online or your ODOT account and depends on your declared weight, axle configuration, and any flat-fee elections.
